Annual Student Art Exhibition
The 60th Annual Student Art Exhibition is a community exhibition for all current students to enter who are enrolled at Bridgewater State University during the 2023 - 2024 academic year. This year's exhibition will be on view at the Maxwell Library from Friday April 5th to Thursday, April 25th. An Artist Reception will be held on the second floor of Library on Wednesday, April 24th from 4:30PM - 7:00PM. Awards will be announced at 6:00PM at the Reception.
Eligibility
Artwork must be created while enrolled in BSU classes as a declared Art Major or Minor. All work must be original in concept, composition, and execution. No kits or copies will be accepted. The following categories will be accepted:
Drawing, Painting, Photography, Graphic Design, Sculpture, Ceramics, Metals/Jewelry Making, Fiber Arts, Printmaking, Book Arts, and Mixed Media.
An artist is able to submit up to 5 maximum pieces. Only 3 maximum pieces will be accepted from each artist. A series must contain no more than 5 pieces, with one Drop Off Form for each series.
Submissions
Submissions will be accepted on the third floor of the Library on the following dates:
Wednesday, March 20th from 9:00AM - 12:00 PM / 1:30PM - 7:00PM
Wednesday, March 27th from 9:00AM - 12:00 PM / 1:30PM - 7:00PM
Guidelines
- All artwork must fit through a standard sized door (36 inches wide)
- Submissions must be dropped off by artists or by a representative who is able to complete submission entry forms, along with a signed exhibition agreement signed by the artist.
- All work must be in full compliance with the category preparation guidelines (see p. 2-3).
- Work that does not adhere to the guidelines will be rejected at time of submission.
- There is one Exhibitor Agreement per submitting artist and a Drop Off Form (with duplicate) must be completed for and attached to each piece at the time of submission.
Preparing Artwork for Submission
No nails or tape can be used on the walls in the library. Duct Tape is not allowed on artwork. All submissions must follow category specific preparation requirements listed:
Book Arts: Fine Binding, Artist Books
- Some pieces will be displayed under a glass case. The artist may instruct the handlers on which spread to display.
- Any installation instructions must be noted at the time of submission.
Ceramics / Sculpture / Metals / Jewelry Making
- The artist is responsible for supplying all required hardware or tools needed for special mounting or suspension.
- All work must be ready for installation at the time of submission.
- Artists must be available for installation if deemed necessary by art handlers.
- Art must be stabilized.
- Works that exceed the 100 lb limit and/or are unstable will not be accepted. The artist may bring their own display form or easel-back.
Drawing / Printmaking
- All work must be framed and matted with eye hooks and a wire for hanging.
Fiber Arts
- All hardware needed for installation must be attached to the work at the time of submission.
- Artists may instruct desired display on their submission form when dropped off (Wall or Case).
Graphic Design
- 2D and Graphic must be framed and matted with a wire installed for hanging.
- All matted work must have a backing along with a wire hanger.
- Must be matted and framed with eye hooks or D rings, and a wire for hanging.
Mixed Media
- 2-Dimensional artwork on paper may be framed or matted with a three-inch border.
- All framed work must have wire hangers.
- All work mounted must have a secure wire on the back to hang.
- 3-Dimensional artwork must be ready for installation at the time of submission.
- Artists must be available for installation if deemed necessary by art handlers.
- The artist may bring their own display form or easel-back.
Painting
- Must be matted and framed, with eye hooks, and a wire for hanging
- All stretched and/or framed work must have wire hangers
- Stretched canvases will only be accepted if properly handled, no stapled sides.
Photography: Silver Print, Digital and Alternative
- Work on paper must be framed or matted with eye hooks, and a wire of hanging
- All framed work must have wire hangers
Time-Based / Interactive Work
- Time-based work must be submitted in Quicktime format on a flash drive.
- Include a 2-minute short and full-length feature. The 2-minute short will be submitted for the judging process, the full feature will be on display.
- All work will be viewed in its entirety before judging to assess suitability.
